Thursday, March 4 from 5:30 – 9pm – Niki of Cafe du Petite India will be serving up dinner at Kaffé 1870 – a great chance to sample her food before her own store opens in the old Robyn’s Flower Shop (no opening date set yet). She will offer a vegetarian option (chick pea curry) or her incredible Butter Chicken for meatlovers along with rice, a veggie samosa + tamarin sauce, naan bread, spicy yogurt and an Indian sweet for dessert. Vegetarian meal is $17 and the butter chicken is $20, all taxes included. I had a sampling and it’s the real deal – truly delicious! To reserve for March 4, please call Kaffé 1870 at 459-3943 or email kaffe1870@gmail.com so we make sure everyone gets fed! And stay tuned for similar sampling nights from C.C. Sushi and C’est Delish – a great opportunity to try all the newest take-out options here and to come!
Yup – November 1st we turn 2! Come on out and celebrate folks – we’ve got great food, UKRAINIA + The MADAFAGAZ are out to entertain us, and plenty more surprises. It’s gonna be a party.
That’s right – hard to believe, but the summer has flown by and we’ve just one more night with the Grateful Griller this season. Thursday, September 3rd is the last hurrah. I can tell you we’re serving beef tenderloin filets and an heirloom tomato salad picked from Tijs’ garden… but that’s it right now. Check back Monday for the full menu!
May 28th the Grateful Griller returns to the Kaffé 1870 patio with a tapas tasting menu, and we can’t wait. Every Thursday evening from June 3 – September 4th we’ll run 3 course table d’hote menus once again. More information to follow very shortly, but today you can read up on the Griller himself as he graces the front page of the Food + Wine section in the Ottawa Citizen. You can also hear him Friday morning on the A-Channel, where he’ll be giving away 2 tickets for dinner.

After a long cold winter, we have a few more reasons to shake off the dust of hibernation as we have a few more things going on Friday nights. This Friday, April 17, we launch a new version of Open Stage that features a full band hosting. This means full drums, unlike Wednesday nights. Louis Rompré is organizing these nights as well, you can contact him to get your name on the list to host or you can call the Kaffé at 819-459-3943 for more details. If you want to play, just show up after 8pm and get your name on the list. After this month, the Open Stage night will be the second Friday of every month. Wednesdays will continue its weekly format. There is no cover for either night. These are excellent opportunities to show off your stuff if you want to book a show at the Kaffé – Mark is our booker and works both nights.
DJ Billy’s Rock ‘n Roll Dance party will continue to spin the last Friday of every month. This is also a free event – get your dancing shoes on.
Due largely to the overwhelming number of folks who want to play at the Kaffé, we will also start having live bands the first and third Fridays of every month starting in May. Guthrie House from Perth featuring Big Dave Balfour (of Dog Day Afternoon) will kick it all off May 1st. An old friend, he’s coming in to celebrate Leigh’s birthday – you should come too. Friday night cover for bands is $5, unless marked otherwise. You can find all our upcoming events on the Live Music link.
We will also continue the Kaffé Karaoke nights, which fall on the Friday night closest to the first of the season. The next one will be June 19. You haven’t seen Karaoke like this!
Hey kids – the New Music Canada Track of the Day (January 27, 2009) is Fiftymen’s “Try to Hide”. You can check it out here.
There’s a nice l’il write up there about the Sheep, the boys and the Kaffé from sweet Amanda Putz, Queen of the CBC.
