14 May, 2009 (10:19) | Specials | 1 comment

May 28th the Grateful Griller returns to the Kaffé 1870 patio with a tapas tasting menu, and we can’t wait. Every Thursday evening from June 3 - September 4th we’ll run 3 course table d’hote menus once again. More information to follow very shortly, but today you can read up on the Griller himself as he graces the front page of the Food + Wine section in the Ottawa Citizen. You can also hear him Friday morning on the A-Channel, where he’ll be giving away 2 tickets for dinner.

OPEN STAGE FOR BANDS at Kaffé 1870

8 May, 2009 (11:08) | Specials | No comments

We find are-selves at the second friday of the month at Kaffé 1870 which means “Open Stage for Bands”.
This month the host band is Barry Hodgson with Pollo Loco. They’re a local bad from Chelsea who play an eclectic rock type of music. They will be happy to accommodate any bands that would like to come up
and play a few tunes without having to set up drums or bass amp. It’s an opportunity to try out those songs you’ve been practicing in the garage and have a great time with friends.
For info please call me at 459-3233 or email candleman.louis@gmail.com

Friday nights at the Kaffé

14 April, 2009 (11:38) | Specials | No comments

After a long cold winter, we have a few more reasons to shake off the dust of hibernation as we have a few more things going on Friday nights. This Friday, April 17, we launch a new version of Open Stage that features a full band hosting. This means full drums, unlike Wednesday nights. Louis Rompré is organizing these nights as well, you can contact him to get your name on the list to host or you can call the Kaffé at 819-459-3943 for more details. If you want to play, just show up after 8pm and get your name on the list. After this month, the Open Stage night will be the second Friday of every month. Wednesdays will continue its weekly format. There is no cover for either night. These are excellent opportunities to show off your stuff if you want to book a show at the Kaffé - Mark is our booker and works both nights.

DJ Billy’s Rock ‘n Roll Dance party will continue to spin the last Friday of every month. This is also a free event - get your dancing shoes on.

Due largely to the overwhelming number of folks who want to play at the Kaffé, we will also start having live bands the first and third Fridays of every month starting in May. Guthrie House from Perth featuring Big Dave Balfour (of Dog Day Afternoon) will kick it all off May 1st. An old friend, he’s coming in to celebrate Leigh’s birthday - you should come too. Friday night cover for bands is $5, unless marked otherwise. You can find all our upcoming events on the Live Music link.

We will also continue the Kaffé Karaoke nights, which fall on the Friday night closest to the first of the season. The next one will be June 19. You haven’t seen Karaoke like this!

Kaffé 1870 is located in Wakefield, Quebec. Owners Mark Michaud, Jeff Hardill and Leigh Irvine took over the reigns November 1, 2008. The Kaffé is open from 11am to 1am every day, 354 days a year. Good food, good drinks and good times await you.

Every Wednesday Louis Rompré runs Open Stage, featuring rotating hosts and pulling largely from the enormous talent pool that exists in this area. Saturday nights we host live bands for $5, and Monday nights through the winter good friend Mike Beck cooks up the best tacos you’re going to find this far north. We regularly host other events, so keep your eye on the calendar. Every day you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere with fresh made meals, 10 beers on tap, good music, and friendly, good-lookin’ staff.
